Dr. Robin Maas, Chairman of the Board, Executive Committee Chair
Dr. Robin Maas is the Director of the Women’s Apostolate to Youth (WAY), founders of Angelus Academy. At the time of her professional retirement in 2000, she was serving as Academic Dean and Professor of Spirituality at the John Paul II Institute for Studies in Marriage and Family in Washington DC. Prior to that she taught Christian Education at Wesley Theological Seminary. Her PhD in Religion and Religious Education is from The Catholic University of America. She also holds graduate degrees from Wesley Theological Seminary in DC (Master of Theological Studies) and the University of Makerere in Uganda (Master of Sociology). Her B.A. is from Principia College in Illinois. Dr. Maas is married, the mother of three children and the grandmother of seven. She is a member of St. John the Beloved Parish in McLean, VA and has served on the Board since its inception.
Jane Adkins, Executive and Development Committees
Jane Adkins, a member of the Women’s Apostolate to Youth for nineteen years, has served Angelus Academy as Founding Principal, Secretary/Treasurer of the Board of Directors, and member of the Board of Trustees since its founding in 2000. Jane is the product of a strong Catholic formation provided by the Sisters of Charity and the Third Order Franciscan Sisters. She has her BA -(in Social Studies/Elementary Education) from Ladycliff College, Highland Falls, NY, and has done graduate work at Trinity College, Washington, DC.
Jane’s extensive teaching experience includes teaching for the Archdiocese of Newark and the Diocese of Arlington, as well as assignments in several states and in Germany. While living in Middletown, Ohio, she founded a preschool program for the YMCA that included instruction in gymnastics, swimming, and a Montessori-based education. Jane retired from active teaching and administration in June 2007. She and her husband COL (retired) Charles P. Adkins have three grown sons and six grandchildren. The Adkins are active members of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Alexandria, VA.
Tim Hurley, Financial Committee Chair, Executive Committee
Tim Hurley joined the Angelus Academy board of trustees in 2007. The father of five, all of whom are enrolled either in Angelus Academy classes or programs, Tim has been a staunch supporter of Angelus Academy from the beginning. His wife, Tricia has been a vital part of the school’s “Little Messenger” pre-school program. Tim grew up attending Catholic schools in the Diocese of Arlington. After receiving his BS in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1993, he went to work at Shirley Contacting Company, LLC, a heavy highway and infrastructure company in Lorton, Virginia. In 2000 he received an MBA from George Mason and today serves as Vice President of Shirley running its Metro Earthworks division which specializes in earthwork and site development projects. The Hurleys live in Prince William County and are active members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Lake Ridge, VA.
Carlos Nalda, Facilities Committee Chair
Carlos Nalda joined the Angelus Academy Board of Trustees in 2009. A product of Catholic education (St. Mary's School in Annapolis, MD), he and his wife Sioban chose Angelus Academy for their four daughters because of the school's strong commitment to faith and challenging academic curriculum. Carlos is a native Washingtonian who received an undergraduate degree in International Relations from The American University and a law degree from The George Washington University Law School. He is an attorney in the Washington DC office of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey, and is involved in numerous professional and community activities, including at his home parish, Holy Spirit in Springfield, VA.
Barbara DeWolf, Mission Director, Executive Committee
As a member of the Women's Apostolate to Youth, the founding organization of Angelus Academy, Barbara DeWolf has been on the Board of Angelus Academy since the school's opening in 2000. She has taught first and third grades, seventh grade religion, served as Vice Principal, and is currently the Mission Director, the liaison between the Women’s Apostolate to Youth and the School. Barbara holds a Bachelor's degree from Boston State College. The DeWolf family traveled around the country and overseas as her husband served with the United States Air Force for 29 years. The DeWolf's, parents of three and grandparents of eleven, are now parishioners of St. Raymond of Penafort Parish. The couple's youngest daughter is a proud graduate of Angelus Academy.
Dr. Eric Michael, Development Committee Chair
Eric Michael joined the Angelus Academy Board of Trustees in 2009. He and his wife Gale chose Angelus Academy for their three daughters and son because of the school's strong commitment to living the Catholic faith, the St. John Bosco pedagogical method, and because of the Core Knowledge Curriculum. Eric is a native of Virginia and, as the son of a retired American diplomat, grew up overseas. He received an undergraduate degree in History from Shenandoah
University, a masters degree in History from the College of William and Mary and a doctorate in higher education leadership from George Washington University. His background includes careers in politics, fund raising and government contracting. He is currently a business development manager with Northrop Grumman Corporation and a member of St. Raymond of Penafort Parish in Springfield, VA.
Vivian Zini, Public Relations
Vivian Zini is one of the founding members of Angelus Academy and has been a Board Member since its inception. A member for Women's Apostolate to Youth (WAY) for over 17 years and actively involved in several of its ministries. Vivian has taught drama at the school on a regular basis and at all grade levels. She has a Master of Arts in Communication, with a major in Theatre Arts, from Regent University. She received her post graduate degree in education at University of North Carolina at Asheville and her BA from University of South Carolina. Prior to working at Angelus Academy, Vivian taught reading and drama in the public schools for five years and worked for the Arlington Diocese as a youth minister. She is married with two children adopted from Korea. Vivian and her family are parishioners at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Chantilly, VA.
Jody Mondoro, Secretary
Jody Mondoro is a native of Northern Virginia and a graduate of Bishop O'Connell High School. She received a BA in History and Education from the College of William and Mary and taught in the Diocese of Arlington for three years before deciding to stop teaching full-time and stay home with her children. For the past nine years she has been developing and directing the Little Messengers Preschool Program. Jody has been a member of the Women's Apostolate to Youth for many years and has been involved with Angelus Academy from its inception. She, her husband and eight children are parishioners of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish in Lakeridge, VA.
Rich Boak, Finance Committee
Rich Boak joined the Angelus Academy Board of Trustees in 2009. He and his wife, Jackie, have five daughters and one son, and their children have attended Angelus Academy since 2001. They chose the school for the strong commitment to the Catholic faith as well as its strong academic curriculum. Rich is a Northern Virginia native who received an undergraduate degree in Accounting from James Madison University and is a Certified Public Accountant. He is currently Vice President, Business Management of Northrop Grumman's Defense Systems Division in Herndon, VA. Rich and Jackie are parishioners of St Raymond of Penafort Catholic Church in Springfield, VA.
Lisa McCrumb, Faculty Representative and Recruitment Committee
Lisa McCrumb is involved with Angelus Academy as a teacher, trustee and parent. She began teaching 1st grade in 2005 and joined the Board of Trustees in 2009 as the Faculty Representative. She is the mother of three children, two are young adults pursuing careers of their own; her youngest daughter, Allison, is in seventh grade at Angelus Academy. Lisa received her BS in Interdisciplinary Studies along with her PreK--6th grade teaching certification from Regent University. Prior to her career in education, she worked at the American Red Cross of the National Capital Area where her primary responsibility was helping military families with emergency assistance and managing the volunteers. Lisa and her family are active members of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Alexandria.
Joseph Ammirati, Principal
Before working at Angelus Academy, Joe Ammirati was a manager with Bradlees Department store, Blockbuster Video and a driver and Hazmat Specialist with Fedex.He has a BA in Politics from The Catholic University of America. Joe first became involved with Angelus Academy as a parent volunteer the year the school opened.He has been a teacher in Little Messengers Program, Kindergarten and Physical Education.He was the Vice Principal for four years before becoming Principal.Joe is also involved with CYO as a basketball coach and as an adult leader and coaches youth lacrosse.He is the father of four. His oldest daughter is a junior in college; his two sons are graduates of Angelus Academy; and his daughter Maureen is currently in the seventh grade.Joe and his wife Kathleen are parishioners of St. Raymond of Penafort in Springfield.
